What is the task of an Embassy?
The Embassy is the diplomatic representation of a country's government in another country.
They exchange messages between their home governments and host country governments.
The Embassies collect information about significant political, social, economical, military and other events happening in the host country and inform their home governments.
They prepare and organize international treaties/agreements and official state visits.
The Embassies promote their own home culture, economy and science in the host countries.
The military attaché working at the Embassies are responsible for contacts between the two armed forces and for arms business.
Many embassies have a consular section exercising the functions of a consulate.

There is another system with the British Commonwealth. The Embassy of a member country of the British Commonwealth in another Commonwealth country is called High Commission.

There was a difference between an Embassy and a Legation until the middle of the 20th Century.
At that time, just the diplomatic representations of a monarchy were called "Embassy". The diplomatic representations of the Republican countries were called "Legation". In today’s world there is no such distinction. All countries, whetherthey ara monarchies or republics, all call their diplomatic representations as "Embassy".
